Shelter Magazines Fold
Posted by Sarah on Wednesday Nov 26, 2008 Under NewsI caught on to an article that ran in the New York Observer, I stumbled upon it at the Renovate + Decorate blog. Bad news for some home mags that have already folded since the economy began slipping. According to the article, House & Garden, Blueprint, O at Home and Home have all been eliminated from the shelves. Others have significantly scaled back and advertising is down for most. The article speculated as to whether or not Conde Nast’s Domino was in trouble, but the CEO confidently reported that they are still comfortable enough to circulate. Once I got a slight feeling that Domino might be in peril I clicked on the article immediately but was quickly relieved, fortunately doesn’t seem as though they are going in the tank.
I am a very happy person when my magazines arrive in the mailbox each month and although we are offered a wealth of amazing resources online through blogs etc, it doesn’t compare to flipping through the glossy pages of a magazine. I am a real junkie, in fact I was recently seduced by the front pages of Real Living, Australia’s #1 home magazine. It was $50 for a subscription and I couldn’t justify it even as an addict. The artwork on the wall in the first block is kideko.
