Jill at Muddypepper is designing great handmade ornaments and other felted objects of desire. Jill is giving away one of her handcrafted ornaments and a lucky TEOT reader could be the proud owner of the ornament pictured above. One of Muddypepper’s ornaments was featured in a previous post about Holiday Tree Trimmings.

Leave us a comment about how you decorate your holiday tree or send us an image and we’ll pick the winner. The winner will be selected on Friday evening Dec 12th at 6:00 pm est. Meanwhile, check out some of Muddypepper’s other work.

This year if I had the time I would love to decorate my entire tree with all handmade ornaments from friends and family.

Mixing Applesauce and Cinnamon creates a really great and aromatic dough for cutting shapes with cookie cutter. It air dries to a hard and delicious smelling shape to hang on the tree with ribbon.

I’d also love to make some origami ornaments, some clothespin doll ornaments, and maybe I could even get some inspiration from Muddypepper and try my hand with some felt. Though I’d love to hang her lovely little acorns on my tree.

My mom has been collecting ornaments her entire life. And though nearly half our basement is consumed with yellowing boxes brimming with every imaginable shape and color, every one has a story. It’s these stories that encourage her to continue to collect. I know that eventually, since only a Mayor’s tree could house all of these trimmings, she will select a starter kit for me out of her possessions. Until then, I’m slowly building my own collection with similarly storied obsessions. So that when my children move away, as we have, I will have some memories keeping me company in December. I think that’s why I’d appreciate such a special token as these adorable little acorns.

I love to decorate in themes, so I have several trees. This year I put up an Americana tree, jingle bell tree, snowman tree, and my large tree is decorated with primitives and adorned with faux popcorn and aged vintage style bead garlands. Most of the ornaments are hand made (not by me, but my talented friends). I just love it! Christmas is my favorite time of the year!

I have got to tell you, I am sometimes embarrassed by my unabashed love for all things Christmas, especially those things nearest and dearest to me-things made by hand. We decorated our tree recently, my tribe and I, and how wonderfully peaceful it is to see these young beautiful adults show their children and nieces and nephew all the handmade ornaments we have collectively created over
the years. My tree is decorated with years of memories and so much love and remember when’s, there are salt candy canes, and flour and salt Santa’s, strung beads and handmade garlands. My tree is a study in accidental creations; items that lean times required were made and now treasured so completely. It is unique, it tells our story! The beautiful felt acorns would definitely add to the story!

  • Heidi S. Says:

We decorate the tree with ornaments that we have collected over the years but the most fun thing we do is decorate the Moose head with a santa hat and ornaments hanging from the antlers.

We get drunk and see what gets lit. Really it is a blast!

  • Rusty Says:

We have the grandkids pull out all the decorations and let them have a great time making the house look festive. They are so happy to be in charge of the house for a day. Tacky can be so beautiful!

my favorite tree decoration will always be my grandmothers art deco spinner. I would spend hours blowing on it to make it spin. It is now part of my holiday decorations and always the last on the tree.

  • Misses Hubbard Says:

My tree has, over the years, matured to hold the special things made by my children. Saving these crafts, made at home and in the classroom, to be uncovered during the holidays are made more special by the trinkets they accompany. Their silver baby cups and spoons transform into precious ornaments alongside game tokens, cookie cutters and festive paper dolls. But I’ve learned that what makes Christmas trees so unique is the ornaments that come from your children.

I decorate with all vintage ornaments and just this year found the cutest tensil tree with darling green bulbs at the tip of each limb. On go the pixies of the past and a swell time is had by all!

  • Kristen Szanto Says:

Oh my goodness, I wish I were sentimental.

At 19, I started celebrating Christmas with a small, irreverent “Tree of Evil” - collecting painted glass ornaments that represented vices, evil or things I disliked. This included ornaments such as a glass pickle (because they are disgusting), a glass potato (because it’s clearly the most clever of the bad carbs), and a glass school bus. When I got married, I added a few more: a glass bride and groom (definitely evil), and an orange cat (because mine is thoroughly evil). The rest of my tree’s accoutrement is from Martha Stewart’s Kmart line, which I suppose is an evil in it’s own right.

At least, I decorate it just like my mom: filler ornaments first, specials next, and garland hung in wedding cake scallops. Then candy canes.

Do I get bonus points for a picture?

This year, I have a special little tree for all the children
handmade ornaments. When they see it, they will be thrilled.
About a month ago, we came together one rainy weekend
and did arts and crafts. I had glitter, paint, glue, paper and
you can just imagine - all over the family room.
What a mess but with a lot of fun! Sorry, no photo, I am asking
    Santa for a new camera.
