Feldman Architecture

Posted by Sarah on Wednesday Aug 11, 2010 Under Interiors

I loved browsing through the portfolio of Feldman Architecture.  The firm is based in San Francisco and has engaged in a wide variety of projects. Feldman’s portfolio is rife with great inspiration both interior and exterior.  Although they lean towards simple and modern, you will find some surprise elements like wider moldings in a modern space.

It’s been a while since we posted about a featured Etsy seller.  Can’t think of a better way to make a come back than with artists Kristina Sostarko + Jason Odd, collectively known as inaluxe.

I’m selling this…

Posted by Sarah on Monday Aug 9, 2010 Under Bedroom

lovely pair of twin beds. They are mahogany and were upholstered in Fortuny fabric, although not recently and not by me (just to clarify). It is just the two headboards. The pair is $500.00. I saw the invoice for these beds and they were $2500.00.

Please email me at sarah@theestateofthings.com if you’d like to discuss.

Don’t they remind you of this?

or even a little of this…

The beds are amazing and I wish I had room for them or my Mom was using them as I had intended for her to.  But she bought 200 year old, hand carved twin beds from Germany instead. I prefer these personally.

Designer Tag Sale in Brentwood

Posted by Sarah on Monday Aug 9, 2010 Under Shopping Resources

Betsy represented at the Designer Tag Sale in Brentwood, CA last weekend. She felt a little blase that day but if I could’ve gone, I might have been able to pump her up a bit.

I’ve marked a few things in Betsy’s pictures that I think are of note.  Let’s begin with what I am most excited about.

The cloisonne jar. I’m wondering what the price of this lovely was. This fella would love to sit on my bookshelf.

DSC08221

There’s a Mexican coverlet being used as a table cloth. Curious about the pottery sitting on the table there, I’m seeing some aqua which perks my attention. The dresser doesn’t look half bad either.

Designer Tag Sale6

Like using busts when accessorizing, I’m reminded of Michelle Adams bookshelves. I think this would’ve been great snuggled in on a bookshelf in Betsy’s apartment. The white ceramic lamp with the black shade was worth taking a closer look at too.

Designer Tag Sale5

Are those coaster sets, pretty cute for a gift.

DSC08217

I spy some Dwell nursery bedding there. What’s that fun little bamboo table there? What’s going on with the curly rocker and is that green chair/bench metal, outdoor furniture, strong desk chair possibility?

Designer Tag Sale4

Wooden candlesticks aren’t bad, wonder what scent those candles were, how much?

Designer Tag Sale3

Who doesn’t like a nice, big sculptural sea shell to throw in to the accessory mix, sitting on a stack of books maybe?

DSC08222

One of those industrial lights from Anthro?

DSC08224

Not interested.

DSC08225

Handsome pet beds and the girl is being a good sport about being in your picture

DSC08227

Like the little chairs, is that an Ink + Wit letterpress print there, sheesh, I think it’s Animals A-Z. That landscape painting there looks a little curious too and I’m digging that little white urn.

Designer Tag Sale

Anyone see someone they know here? That outdoor table they are sitting at is pretty sweet, was that for sale? Signing design books?

With what little I can see here, I’d say my vote would be to return.  The next tag sale is October 24th in Costa Mesa.

Music Friday: Tame Impala

Posted by Betsy on Friday Aug 6, 2010 Under Uncategorized

Its snuck up on me. Psychadelic Rock is happening, it can’t be denied. It’s creeping into playlists and venues and radio stations and music blogs everywhere… Especially here in Los Angeles.

This song is getting a LOT of airplay at the radio station where I work. Admittedly when I first listened to Tame Impala to see what all the hype was about I gave it a couple spins and passed right past it, cause I confess that LATELY I like folksy bleeding heart americana bands OR I like danceable electronic pop/anything that has a robot in it (its especially awesome if its both bleeding heart folk and robot… like this discovery I had today…) - but yeah, I just didn’t think that any 4 piece psychrock was gonna be my thing.

HOWEVER… every time this song comes on the radio I really like it… So - yeah. I just got the whole album, and now I’m gonna be paying a lot of attention to psychadelic rock.

Shop in Asheville

Posted by Sarah on Thursday Aug 5, 2010 Under Shopping Resources

Betsy and I went to Asheville, NC back in June.  We did a little shopping and we’re just getting around to sharing. Here are some of the sights.

DSC07998

Asheville is a beautiful city, I highly recommend it. Not surprising that one of my favorite things to do there is play know your neighborhood and drive around the Grove Park neighborhood and oooh and aaahh at all of the old homes there. During this visit, we spent most of our time on foot in the downtown area.

One of our first stops was K2 Studio on College Street,

Folksy

Posted by Sarah on Thursday Aug 5, 2010 Under textiles

Have you noticed the resurgence of the Mexican folk art blanket? It started last year and I thought it had died down after Grace Bonney covered her headboard with it.  But alas, its still happening.

Maybe the yummiest example of all in Domino (a few years ago)…

After doing a little digging I found that it is called colcha and is native to the tenango region of Hidalgo in Mexico.  It is a folk art practiced by the Otomi Indians.

My Mom and Dad are living the colcha dream in their bedroom, you can catch a glimpse of it.  Its really beautiful in person and is a powerful graphic force in any room.

Mother's bedroom

Last week I found this on Ebay and considered it as a coverlet for DC’s room. I searched “mexican coverlet” and “otomi” and found some other choices too.

These blankets are also available at the beautiful Laviva Home and Jacaranda.

Let the sunshine in

Posted by Sarah on Tuesday Aug 3, 2010 Under Bath

This bathroom has really got my wheels turning,

open shower coastal living

Coastal Living

it makes me think about the placement, size and number of windows in a bathroom.

My parents have two skylights over the shower and three small windows in their master bath.  I like this. My husband’s uncle has a Colorado cabin with a casement window in the shower so you can listen to the birds singing while you scrub.  The small window in my master bath floods the room with sunlight in the summer at 6:45 am. The downtown art deco apartment in Greensboro, NC that Dan and I rented before we were married had a window with obscure glass in the white subway tiled shower. (man was that a great apartment!)

I’ve lived in quite a few old houses, some that have been remodeled and others that had not.  But when its time to find/create my dream house I’m thinking I may want to build a new one.  And no matter if I build a new one or renovate an old one, my bathroom will be as open air as it can reasonably be.
