A girl’s nursery

Posted by Sarah on Monday Jun 28, 2010 Under Babytime Decor

One of my besties, Amanda is having a girl! Such amazing news for their family, they already have a little boy and now they’ll complete their collection, ha!

In light of this joyous news, I decided to mock up a nursery for this precious girl scheduled for arrival in October. My source of inspiration comes from the Baby Giraffe series by Sharon Montrose,

This darling would be perfect in a large size on the nursery wall. 20×200 currently has a 30″x24″.

After seeing Baby Giraffe No.5, my mind wandered to Rubie Green’s pink chevron fabric called East Village and then everything else kind of came together.

Amanda already has the Gulliver crib and the Hemnes dresser so those elements were included. Here’s what I’m thinking as far as bedding goes,

Crib bumper in Rubie Green East Village (pink) because the Gulliver looks a little silly with a skirt (there’s controversy about using a bumper but Amanda and I both used them and didn’t have any problems so for the forseeable future I am pro-bumper)

Small comforter/coverlet in John Robshaw’s Kochi Kashmir, for the first long while she won’t use this because of safety hazards and it will be placed over the end of the crib. Note: You could have the skirt fashioned out of Kochi Kashmir and have an East Village bumper.

I really like the idea of the warm brown tones in the giraffe print paired with the light pink. Two elements that I prefer to find in a nursery were included in this design, a commanding piece(s) of artwork and some fun overhead lighting.

They All Fall Down

Posted by Sarah on Friday Oct 9, 2009 Under Babytime Decor, News

I think the plague is going around in the American magazine circle. Today I read at Abbey Goes Design Scouting that her beloved Gourmet is going bye bye and then I was over at Ruby Press and discovered that in addition to Gourmet, Conde Nast is closing Modern Bride, Elegant Bride and Cookie.

I don’t cook but I do love the covers of Gourmet and I’m slightly dissapointed about Cookie, how else will I figure how to be a stylish parent? I don’t subscribe but I have purchased it a couple of times. Right now they are mulling over the topic of “Is it ok to smoke weed at play dates?” and wouldn’t you know there’s Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker). I’d head over to Cookie’s website and start harvesting all of the decor inspiration you can before they shut it down. They’ve got a load of domestic and international house tours, of the entire house not just the kiddie spaces.  There’s also some good nursery design ideas to gather there too.

Some of my favorites…

Is she always that well-behaved?

Posted by Sarah on Thursday Sep 10, 2009 Under Babytime Decor, Vintage

An older couple recently posed that question to my mother-in-law in a local diner. The answer is, no she isn’t but most of the time DC is pretty easy-going.

Hey Nonni and Gram, DC wants a lovely antique piece like this to wear to her next social engagement, spaghetti dinner at your house perhaps?

Seriously this is lovely, really dreamy but DC would ruin this in a second. Maybe for display? These beautiful things will run you $75-$125.  See other pretty little things at Belle Heir, fine vintage clothing for babies and tots.
