Black ceilings, as it turns out, are not the scary dome of doom overhead that we might imagine. The cozying quality is worth consideration.
One of the ties that binds Sarah and I together is our appreciation for a great home decor trend.
This week, we are together in NC, and so it was really fun to relate over this mutual discovery of late.
We had both started to take special notice of black ceilings popping up in our world with great affect.

Yeah Girl! I mean, the black ceiling was already impressive, but that jute rug that she affixed to the ceiling kicked it up another notch. I stared at this for a while until it struck me. Normally I’m not sure I’d feel too comfortable about a dark and stormy heavy oil on canvas hanging out on a top shelf in the kitchen like that. But with the heavy ceiling, the black appliances and the shadow on the kitchen island – it looks so awesome. A perfect perch. This is a wonderful moody take on the kitchen. I think moody is where we should all be looking for what’s next in interiors.

Hey, that might be navy, but it provides the same affect and we dig it.

Actually scratch that one before this, I like this bathroom below better. Similar elements, but overall, a more sophisticated execution. I have to ask myself between the two, despite their similar black ceilings, white subway tile, fun tile selections, they even both painted the respective vintage cast bowls with a black base. (though one is a sink, the other a clawfoot tub)… anyway. I ask myself about which one is going to hold up long over time. I think the statement in this bottom photo is less trend-driven, while still perfectly of this moment. It’s a fun balance, and it’s one that I’m trying to strike in my own home. But I have to fight myself hard because look at that cement tile in that bathroom up there. I love a graphic statement.

Sarah and I wondered if this concept would work in my bedroom ceilings. A quick look at what that looks like here. But we wondered if it was maybe a bit too dome like. Though as I stare at that image above, I wonder if it might just be improved a bit for my personally, if the black was a bit warmer and more matte in its finish.

I saw a rug at the High Point Market that this room above would love. It’s just the right mood. It was a Turkish style kilim with pops of color in its sparse, tribal imagery. I told the dealer that I needed it for my fantasy alter ego. This room looks like my other self’s home. Y’all know I love a gypsy, so I have added this blog to my reader in the boho category.
via Here is a sweet sized little closet with a black ceiling and a lot of natural light. I love the white, black and wood combo, so this kind of makes me think it would fit in my house just fine.
