You might like to know that Overstock has got some handsome modern nursery furniture right now.
This affordable beauty has a non-toxic finish, converts to a toddler bed and is made of sustainable pine. Did you notice is was pretty good looking too? The customer reviews are good so far. At $379 , the modern espresso crib is an affordable option.

Maybe you also want the dresser/changing table companion? This piece is $439 at Overstock.

I’m wondering if the Tullsta armchair from IKEA could be converted in to a rocking chair for a nursery?

Do you think a carpenter/reupholsterer/wood worker could put rockers on the chair?
$149 for the chair, $50 for the slipcover, $____ for the transformation? I love those Serena & Lily gliders as much as the next gal but this is a much more affordable option.
One of my besties, Amanda is having a girl! Such amazing news for their family, they already have a little boy and now they’ll complete their collection, ha!
In light of this joyous news, I decided to mock up a nursery for this precious girl scheduled for arrival in October. My source of inspiration comes from the Baby Giraffe series by Sharon Montrose,

This darling would be perfect in a large size on the nursery wall. 20×200 currently has a 30″x24″.

After seeing Baby Giraffe No.5, my mind wandered to Rubie Green’s pink chevron fabric called East Village and then everything else kind of came together.
Amanda already has the Gulliver crib and the Hemnes dresser so those elements were included. Here’s what I’m thinking as far as bedding goes,
Crib bumper in Rubie Green East Village (pink) because the Gulliver looks a little silly with a skirt (there’s controversy about using a bumper but Amanda and I both used them and didn’t have any problems so for the forseeable future I am pro-bumper)
Small comforter/coverlet in John Robshaw’s Kochi Kashmir, for the first long while she won’t use this because of safety hazards and it will be placed over the end of the crib. Note: You could have the skirt fashioned out of Kochi Kashmir and have an East Village bumper.
Crib sheet-off the shelf, pink polka dots, pinstripe or solid white

love, this way, Blancucha print
I really like the idea of the warm brown tones in the giraffe print paired with the light pink. Two elements that I prefer to find in a nursery were included in this design, a commanding piece(s) of artwork and some fun overhead lighting.
For the last few weeks I’ve been thinking about switching DC from a crib to a big girl bed. Dan and I think its a good idea to get a full size bed because it expands our space for guests but we want to be careful not to make it overwhelming for DC.
She doesn’t seem to mind sleeping in her crib at all so I’m taking my time in locating just the right bed.
I’ve looked at a lot of antique and vintage beds both twin and full size. I’m really itching to line a pair of twin beds up but I don’t think I have the space in DC’s room for that.

I’m in the early stages of deciding what direction I want to go in as far as color. Right now I like the idea of aqua or light blue with a punch of red. The ceiling in DC’s room is Benjamin Moore’s In Your Eyes.

I like the bohemian and feminine feel in Violet’s room, so I’ve been looking at some quilts at Plover Organic and Roberta Roller Rabbit.

Found this “spindle bed” on Craigslist, $125 is a hot deal

Danish stunner on Craigslist, twin size, $75, its missing a spindle

F is for freakin’ cute when it comes to Paperfingers alphabet prints.
And the cuteness doesn’t end with the alphabet, you can also get a custom name print for your little snuggle bunny.

Anybody else think this would be perfection in a nursery or little girl’s room? I know what you’re gonna say, “I want that for my dining room”

the Norm 06, Scandinavian Design Center, small $59.11
I think the plague is going around in the American magazine circle. Today I read at Abbey Goes Design Scouting that her beloved Gourmet is going bye bye and then I was over at Ruby Press and discovered that in addition to Gourmet, Conde Nast is closing Modern Bride, Elegant Bride and Cookie.

I don’t cook but I do love the covers of Gourmet and I’m slightly dissapointed about Cookie, how else will I figure how to be a stylish parent? I don’t subscribe but I have purchased it a couple of times. Right now they are mulling over the topic of “Is it ok to smoke weed at play dates?” and wouldn’t you know there’s Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise Parker). I’d head over to Cookie’s website and start harvesting all of the decor inspiration you can before they shut it down. They’ve got a load of domestic and international house tours, of the entire house not just the kiddie spaces. There’s also some good nursery design ideas to gather there too.
Some of my favorites…

Meet Mallory Gray, the procreation of what I would say is one of my favorite couples, Laurie and Andy Rhoney.

These two have made a beautiful human being, and while that is more profound than I really have words for…. let me move on to GUSH about the nursery that Laurie put together. I knew it would be a success. Laurie is a freelance Interior Designer here in Hickory,NC and her home is an impressive collection that speaks to her and Andy’s tailored eccentricity. They are both artists and their home is full of life and warmth. At her 6th month, Laurie was telling me about this idea she had to wallpaper the ceiling with a specific print, and from her description I totally could tell that this was it as soon as I stumbled upon this image. It was a great idea. I can’t believe the turnout. Its so stunning. Geez…. makes me wanna go get knocked up so I can hire Laurie to help me with my own Rhoney Nursery. Check it out!

DC’s room is still a work in progress, since we moved in May. She is 14 months old now, spending a little more time in her room and really getting in to…tearing stuff off the shelves she can reach and pitching it on to the floor.
The unfinished part is mostly the walls and the art that I originally purchased on Etsy is still great however, because art is so accessible now I see something new 15 times a day that I want to hang in her room. Recently I’m seeing Geninne everywhere and this particular idea really ticked my fancy.
I think I’m going to do it and I know where I can get tiny clothespins, that would be here.
Who says you can’t create a great collage of these beautiful prints… say in your dining room above the buffet or how about to fill that big void over your sofa?

I spotted this playroom in Charlotte Home & Garden. The shingles are made from the hardcovers of books.
