I like to check in at Fred Flare from time to time to see the silly things they’re offering. Great place to find gifts for just about anyone. During this visit I found some fun stuff for the office.

Mini rain boot garden

Reprodepot notecard book

Kate Spade desk planner

Glazed trophy vase

Graphic tape

Glass water bottle

When you don’t have time to orchestrate amazing Martha Stewart style art projects for your kids, plop them down at a Lack table with this.

Ha. It’s a journal.

I need a piece of furniture that is floating around somewhere out there in the universe that is not wide and has many drawers. Where would I place this piece of furniture…in the home office. Why do I need it…to store lots of odds and ends some I have, some I’ve yet to acquire. Oh and it has to be affordable.
This is close, sans illustration.

Perhaps the Varde cabinet at Ikea that I’ve long admired would fit. I haven’t measured the space yet but I’m thinking it’s gonna be too wide, it’s 57 1/2″ wide.

One of our readers, Diana, asked us to source some storage boxes so she can neatly store all of her favorite design mags. I decided to do a whole post because I too need a lot of storage boxes because the office in our house now has a lot of open shelving and we need to organize the mess. Click on the images to link to item.
So the search will obviously begin at IKEA where you’ll find a range of storage boxes, some flimsier than others.
1. Emu, great for storing CDs or DVDs
2. Snack box
3. Strikt Magazine box (cotton)
4. Mackis (customize to make it any color you like)
5. Knuff magazine file (at $4.99 and wooden, this one is my pick!)
6. Dokument (mesh)

I think Martha does a lot of things right. One thing that I am particularly nutty for are Martha and her editorial staff’s organizational offerings, specifically in the office. Here are some images of offices that have graced the pages of past issues of Martha Stewart Living.
Using various hues of chalkboard paint, painter’s tape and a lot of patience, this chalkboard calendar was created
Using dressed up clipboards, a twist on the bulletin board was created.
Easy shelves, gray boxes to hide the mess and a Parsons desk equals visual perfection
More tonal action with a color called Sesame, personal mementos on the desk that make you happy or inspire you
A pattern emerges…It seems that a continuous color combo and storage boxes are the key
Have a small space…how about a hidden office behind sliding doors
The office at the Lily Pond house, fitted in a converted mudroom
If you don’t like the file storage options out there and they can be fairly monotonous, how about fashioning one out of an old trunk
I came across this idea for a schedule/calendar at Pinch Design. Great for home office or work environment. List your retail events or soccer practice… and hey the wall color isn’t too shabby either.

Soon after writing this post, I realized that Apartment Therapy’s Ohdeedoh also covered this. See that post here.
